Meet the MAF family: Dave and Becky Waterman

Last week, the MAF UK team had the pleasure of welcoming Dave and Becky Waterman to the Folkestone office during their UK home assignment.

Dave and Becky have lived in Liberia for just over a year, with Dave serving as the programme’s sole aircraft maintenance engineer.

Before moving to Liberia, they worked with MAF in Uganda.

Living in Liberia is very different to serving in Uganda. Most of the fruit and vegetables are imported, which means the cost of buying fresh produce is extremely high.

The weather in Liberia is also different. Monrovia Liberia’s capital is the wettest capital city in the world!

Corrosion is a big problem so, to keep our three planes in top condition, Dave has to complete an engine wash of our aircraft after every flight.

With the wet season making huge areas of Liberia impassable, it can take people days to reach their destination by road, making our planes essential for getting around safely.

Dave and Becky also spoke of a feeling of hopelessness in the country one that’s made even harder by high levels of unemployment.

Despite these challenges, they’re enjoying life in Liberia particularly being able to live a five-minute walk from the ocean, and seeing how each MAF flight makes such a positive impact on people’s lives.

Becky continues to share her Bible Thoughts videos on YouTube <http://link.maf-uk.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>  and has recently completed her first non-fiction book, which she hopes to get published soon. She also supports new MAF families by helping them to get settled in Liberia. In June, she hopes to begin a Bible study group for women.

Please pray

*    For more personnel to join our Liberia programme, and for those who will be arriving soon to settle in well.

*    That Liberia’s people will find hope in Jesus Christ, and that employment opportunities will increase.

*    That Becky’s Bible study group will get off to a good start and will encourage the attendees to dive deeper into God’s Word.
